5 tips to take better pictures, even with the Iphone!

5 tips to take better pictures, even with the Iphone!

  1. Change your view. Changing your perspective can really make a picture more interesting. Getting higher or lower than your subjects is an option. For getting higher, find something to step on safely or use a chair. If you taking pictures of yourself, getting a higher perspective of yourself will make such a huge difference. If you are shorter than the people you are taking pictures of, find something to step on to either get on their level or have them sit.

2. Find the light. Have your subject point their nose to the light. You don't want to face the sun, but rather have your subjects backs to the sun and use your flash. Facing the sun will cause people to squint and it makes it hard to smile for the picture. If you happen to have a wall nearby, have your subject stand by the wall so the light can bounce off the wall and give some extra lighting.

3. If you have a DSLR, stop using the built in flash and instead use an attached flash. Built in flashes are harsh lighting on your subject. Attached lighting, tilted upwards or bounced off a wall/ceiling offer a much more appealing light source. You can use a diffuser to also disperse light evenly.

4. Find the shade. If you are outside taking pictures in the middle of the day, find the shade. This will make the light even on your subjects face and there will be no shade/sun spots on their face.

5. Best time to take pictures outside is one hour after sunrise and one hour before sunset. Thus the reason you may hear natural light photographers want to book a session at those times. This is called the Golden Hour and will provide beautiful light for your pictures.

In the world of photography there is always something to learn. These are just a few things I have learned and want to share with beginners as I once was. Every little bit of information always helps!
